The Extender kit comprises of a Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) sometimes referred to as 'baluns'. The TX transmits HDMI over the 2 x LAN cables (up to 120m) to the RX located at the HDTV. Control of all the source functions (such as pause, rewind etc) is possible via an infrared (IR) 'magic eye' connected to the RX. This 'sees' the remote control signals and sends them back to TX, where a transmitter 'blasts' them out at the source. To neaten your install, the units can be wall or TV mounted using the supplied mounting brackets.
